❤️ Ready to take your characters from monologues to dialogues?
Relationships drive creative change in our lives—and stories. This month, let’s write about what happens when two hearts meet.
Together we’ll dive into the world of character dynamics and write stories “about us”—from fictional duos to the real-life connections that shaped us the most.
From fleeting connections to lifetime friendships, we’ll write about all kinds of bonds and relationships.
We’ll also discuss how to write back-and-forth dialogue and add emotional layers to character connections.
Let’s lean in and write about real and fictional relationships with depth, emotion—and a whole lot of care 🥰
🌻 So, who is this workshop best for?
This workshop is likely a great fit for you if:
You like to write a lot—or a little!
You want to learn how to write about relationships—imagined or real—in ways that feel layered, nuanced, and caring.
You’re curious to try out a single writing workshop (it’s a quick 2 hours).
You’re ready (though perhaps also nervous) to share your writing.
You like to give encouraging feedback to your fellow writers—and receive supportive feedback in return!
You’re eager to get to know and connect with fellow writers in your community.
You look forward to writing within a small group (there will never be more than 8 writers in the workshop).
🌳 You can expect to leave the workshop with:
At least a few paragraphs of fresh writing about important relationships in your life—and the fictional ones that leapfrog from your imagination onto the page.
New insights on how to build layers of meaning into dialogue and character connections.
Prompts and “creative homework” to inspire your at-home creative practice.
New friends who are also fellow writers.
A feeling of creative courage and possibility ✨
🪴 Where we’ll write:
We will write in the Elderberry Room in the Wellness Centre at Cook Street Village Activity Centre. (380 Cook Street, Victoria).
🔔 Note: The Wellness Centre is accessed from the parking lot of Cook Street Village Activity Centre. (Not through the main front doors!)
Look for the white sign that says “Wellness Centre” at the back of the parking lot.

🙋🏻♀️ Your workshop leader:
I’m Monika, a freelance author of 50+ books for schools, and I firmly believe everyone is a writer. Want to get to know me better? I’ve got a mini bio here.
💸 Cost: $32 + GST
Can’t pay the full amount? I’ve been there, too. I always have up to two pay-what-you-can spots in my private workshops.
Just send me a quick email and let me know how much you can pay for the workshop. If there’s a remaining PWYC spot, I’ll send you a link to sign up for that amount, no questions asked. ✨
✍️ Please bring with you:
A notebook and your favourite pen for writing. Or, if you prefer typing, please bring a digital device (eg. tablet, laptop).
A mug for tea.
Your enthusiasm and creativity!
Cancellation policy:
I completely understand that life can throw you curveballs! You can cancel your registration and receive a full refund up to three days before the workshop.
Want a full Saturday of creativity?
Kelsey Andrews—my lovely friend, talented poet, and fellow facilitator—will lead an afternoon workshop on the same day at the same facility!
Why not come to both? Anyone who signs up for both workshops will be entered in a draw to win a blue-pencil session!
One of us will look at up to 1,000 words or three pages of your work and give encouraging comments and suggestions during our lunchtime break.
